The Row

In 2014, as part of a 6 person crew, Jamie Douglas-Hamilton set out to row 5,000 miles across the gruelling Indian Ocean, from Australia to Africa.

This treacherous journey saw them battle 3 major storms, relentless ocean currents and even a hurricane.

The physical demands were such that each crew member would burn 8,000-10,000 calories each day and drink 9-13 litres of water.

The Revelation

Due to the volume of desalinated water the crew were drinking, they would often hallucinate or even lose consciousness as the purified water, lacking in mineral content, flushed vital electrolytes out of their bodies.

This all changed when one crew member mixed sea water with his fresh water. The replenishing effect was so profound that the crew began mixing every second bottle of drinking water with one third salt water.

They would go on to beat the existing world record by two weeks.

The Research

Inspired by his experiences on the ocean, Jamie conducted extensive global research to find the most effective hydration solution in the world.

It was in Japan that he first discovered ionised water - a well known water product that was widely consumed in the country for its myriad benefits and approved by the Ministry of Health in the 1960s.

Jamie endeavoured to bring this innovative product to the European market and the rest, as they say, is history.
